Missing things
Yes, I miss my friends back in California. I miss the people at my son's old preschool. I miss my MOPS group at church. I miss the warmer weather. I miss my family members being closer. I miss my little house and our great neighbors.
But, the thing that affects me daily is the food stuff that I can't find here in the midwest. I've looked everywhere, but I can't seem to find fresh, uncooked flour tortillas. Even the Mexican market her doesn't carry them. I used to find them at my local Stater Brothers market and at our Costco. We ate these in droves. The kids loved them cooked for a few minutes on the stovetop pan, slathered with butter and rolled up. They used to request them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were perfect for David's bag lunches for school. I used to go through a package a week. *sigh* Even I liked them.
Yoshida's Gourmet Sauce. Again, available abundantly in California. Not one store I have visited has it here. I even emailed the company asking where I can get it and I got no response. This is the BEST teriyaki sauce ever. We loved to marinate chicken thighs and then grill them on our gas grill. I also used to add it to homemade hamburger patties. I think I have tried about 5 different brands here and none of them stack up.
Knotts Berry Farm jam. There is just no comparison. Not one jam I have bought here is like it. I loved the apricot, boysenberry (seedless of course), blackberry, strawberry...ahhhhh! I just don't eat toast anymore.
Luisianne brand fish and chicken fry. I know, it seems like a little thing. I always, always had this in my pantry. I used the chicken fry to coat chicken tenders and then gently pan fry them. Then cut them up (still hot) and add them to a salad along with tomatoes, carrots, croutons, mozzarella cheese and Italian dressing. It's a meal all in itself. Even the kids liked this. Not too spicy, but really flavorful. It's also a great seasoning for breaded chicken. Yes, I've tried many other brands and none of them are quite the same. Ha, ha, they are piling up in my pantry!
Oh, and last but not least, I miss my grill. We brought it with us, but it has not gas tank now. We used to have it hooked up to the gas line back at our old house. Now it sits on the patio just off our basement (faaaarrrr away from the kitchen), covered in snow. I am using a grill pan on the stove, but it's not the same.
OK, it you Hoosiers out there know where I can find these things, please let me know!!!
